Salmon Fishing in Scotland River Laxford
|
O.S. Map 9
The River Laxford is regarded as
one of the more productive rivers in northern Scotland but it is
fished privately and therefore of little interest to the visiting
angler.

Salmon Fishing on the River Laxford
|
| The Laxford is an attractive river
in north west Sutherland,
draining the famous lochs Stack and More, once regarded by some as the best sea
trout lochs in the whole of Scotland, but the fishing is expensive and
most unlikely to be accessible to the casual visitor. Upwards of 200
salmon are taken most years on the river, which runs the three and a
half miles from Loch Stack to enter the sea in Loch Laxford. Also at one
time a most productive sea trout river but stocks of sea trout have
declined dramatically in the last twenty years. |

Please note that these maps may date back several decades.
Much of the human detail will have changed but the character of the rivers and
lochs, and the trout and salmon in them, will be much the same as they have
always been.
In addition to the information provided
here, I would recommend that anyone planning a fishing or
walking trip in Scotland should equip themselves with a compass
and the appropriate Ordnance Survey map. The most useful of the
O.S. maps for the fisherman is the Landranger series, scale
1:50,000. For each of the lochs and rivers listed here, I have given the
relevant O.S. Map number. See Ordnance
Survey Maps |
