Holiday Cottages in Scotland
|
|
|
Many fishermen will
appreciate the luxury of the traditional Scottish fishing hotel, whose
experienced staff will go to great lengths to ensure a successful
fishing trip, taking care of every detail of the holiday, from the
arrangement of the fishing to the provision of full board and lodgings.
Others will prefer the freedom and relaxed informality of the self
catering option, a holiday cottage from which to explore the fishing
opportunities in the lochs and rivers of the vicinity. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Or
perhaps the chosen fishing beat is tied to a conveniently located self
catering cottage. There are numerous self catering houses and cottages
available for rent in Scotland, with easy access to trout and salmon
fishing. Many are listed in the brochures produced by VisitScotland and
available from tourist information offices throughout Scotland.
On this page, you will find details of Scottish
self catering accommodation with a bit of information about
the fishing opportunities they offer. Those who own or let self catering
accommodation with access to game fishing in Scotland are invited to send details to me by
e-mail for inclusion in the
list below - see panel below for required information. |

This
newly built house offering self catering
accommodation for up to 7 people sits in an elevated
position looking over Scapa Flow and the South Isles but
is conveniently located just 4 miles from Kirkwall. It
has been built in a traditional style with welsh slate
roof, flagstone floors and multi fuel stove but has all
the comforts of modern living. Under floor heating,
powered by an environmentally friendly ground source
heat pump, ensures that the Lodge is always cosy even
when Orkney experiences several changes of weather in
one day! |

Orkney
is a fisherman’s paradise with a variety of lochs for
wild brown trout fishing and a long coastline offering
lots of opportunities for sea angling from boat or the
shore. We can arrange boat hire, ghillie services
and ‘visitor membership’ for the Orkney Trout Fishing
Association prior to your visit. We can even arrange to
have your ‘big ones ‘vacuum packed and /or smoked for
you to take home. The larger Lochs of Harray, Stenness
and Broadhouse are approximately 20 mins drive away and
the smaller Kirbister Loch is just a five minute drive
down the road! – Ideal for that evening ‘dabble’! |

We have nine cottages on the estate
with free fishing for guests. The estate has fly fishing for wild brown
trout from estate boats on Dunalastair Reservoir (Loch) and on the River
Tummel between Kinloch Rannoch and Tummel Bridge. The
cottages vary in size, sleeping from 2 to 8 people, and each is
separately sited in locations around the estate with three close to the
water. There are plenty of activities in the area for non-fishing
family members and there are other lochs in the area which can be fished
with permits obtained from local shops. These include Lochs
Eigheach, Kinardochy and Bhac.
Dunalastair is approximately 2 hours from Edinburgh and Glasgow and 35
minutes west of Pitlochry.

The Gate House is located in woodland not 40 yds.
from the river Snizort, the Isle of Skye’s most
acclaimed salmon and sea trout river, and only a two
minute walk from the ghillie’s office. The cottage
is rented by the week and costs £320 for two people
at any time of the year. There are 8 miles with 12
beats of classic spate river for you to chose from.
The river falls from the hills
through basalt gorges down to the meadows and the
estuary, giving the full variety of river
conditions. The cottage accommodates two anglers in
a single bedroom which can be arranged with one
king-size bed or two singles. It is beautifully
furnished and fully equipped with everything you’d
expect in your own home. Permits can be booked at
the ghillie’s office or you can take your chances
that there will be beats available on the dates you
chose to stay. Permit charges vary according to the
time of the season but range from £20 for a half-day
ticket in early season to £60 for a day ticket in
September and October. To see more details of the
river and the Gate House see the website link above.
