Finsbay, Flodabay and Stockinish
Located in south east Harris, the Finsbay fishing permit allows fishing
in all lochs on the system, including Flodabay and Stockinish. The
fishings comprise about 50 lochs on Finsbay, 35 on Flodabay and 17 on
Stockinish with two separate tributaries to the sea. Some of the lochs
are near the road, most can be reached within thirty minutes, and the
most distant are within an hour's walk. There is a system of daily
rotation. Brown trout fishing is available in March and April at a cost
of £30 per week, with salmon and sea trout from May onwards.
The combined 5 year average catch for the “100 Lochs” comprising Finsbay,
Flodabay and Stockinish is 5 salmon, 52 sea trout and 167 brown trout.
Accommodation is available for a total of 18.

The maps on this website have been
reproduced with the permission of Collins Bartholomew.
Please note that these maps may date back several decades.
Much of the human detail will have changed but the character of the rivers and
lochs, and the trout and salmon in them, will be much the same as they have
always been.
In addition to the information provided
here, I would recommend that anyone planning a fishing or
walking trip in Scotland should equip themselves with a compass
and the appropriate Ordnance Survey map. The most useful of the
O.S. maps for the fisherman is the Landranger series, scale
1:50,000. For each of the lochs and rivers listed here, I have given the
relevant O.S. Map number. See Ordnance
Survey Maps |
